I am learning to hear the sounds in words – phase 3

I am learning to hear the sounds in words – phase 3

* This resource has been updated to reflect the changes in phonics following the DfE’s request for a review of phonics schemes *

  • The aim of this resource is to practice listening and matching the sounds in words using phase 3 sounds
  • The sounds included are: ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, er
  • The aim of the resource is to match the picture up to the sound – the sounds will be in the middle of the word, e.g. lightning; or the end, e.g. jar– this makes it more challenging and exciting for the child to engage with
  • This resource is amazing for helping to embed the phase 3 sounds – it requires the child to recognise the sounds in addition to hearing and applying it in words
  • Comes as 3 A4 sheets; the resource is laminated making it long lasting
  • It has hook and loop dots making it highly interactive and engaging for children
  • The font used in this resource is the same as the one used in most schools and nurseries and so forms the letters correctly
  • Comes with a parent information and guidance sheet
  • This activity links to the National Curriculum as used in schools
